The Weather Channel App

Surfers at the ready in... uh, Atlanta. Atlanta was the HQ of The Weather Channel, so most of our comps had Atlanta as the location.

Here are some examples of the new brand identity that was incorporated on the network's bumpers and shows. The app integrated these motion and visual elements into the presentation like the last sequence shown with a mountain biker from the mobile app.
Mobile screens with the new design direction. Flat design with a chance of bright blue ⛅ 🌈.
In addition to the new branding, the TWC app partnered with a lot of retailers and companies for sponsored ad content as a revenue stream. The designs had placeholders for dynamic and catered content. Sponsored content lived in various places on different screens with design rules on presentation to preserve weather information.
The tablet app was designed with customizable widgets for users and clients. Sponsors and clients with on-site, large-form touch surfaces could place interactive content for customers via a large, tappable monitors. Tablet users could customize the areas to show personalized content like news from other locations.

The Weather Channel Android App

The Weather Channel

Overview

As a Mobile UX Designer and User Researcher, I played a crucial role in the significant transformation of The Weather Channel (TWC) Android app. The challenge was to cater to both the core weather information-seeking audience and a tech-savvy, digital-content-consuming audience while seamlessly integrating sponsored content. The redesign introduced modern design paradigms, enhanced user engagement through motion and video elements, and strategically accommodated spaces for sponsored content. The results included measured growth in conversions and engagement, positive reception from both core and new users, and the successful fusion of functionality and user-centric design.
